Soil Surveys
Our lead soil scientist guides the survey and analysis team. Under their direction, Shell Valley has developed Class I soil surveys for mine planning purposes and less extensive Class II soil surveys for riparian inventories and wetland investigations.
Field soil surveys follow the Key to Soil Taxonomy, eleventh ed. (Natural Resources Conservation Service 2010). Shell Valley has mapped several thousand acres of soil types, while conducting soil taxonomic surveys for private and federal agencies, in Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
Shell Valley soil surveys have been used to produce mine and reclamation planning documents in support of bentonite, uranium, gypsum, coal, sand and gravel mines.
